Government Banquet Hall
Eteläesplanadi 6, 00130 Helsinki
The Government Banquet Hall serves as a representative and meeting venue for the government and the Prime Minister. The building is not open to the public.
The house, which represents a blend of Empire and Neoclassicism, was completed in 1825. Designed by Carl Ludvig Engel, it is part of the original architectural landscape of South Esplanade and was initially the tallest building in its row. Over the centuries, newer neighboring buildings have surpassed the Banquet Hall in height.
During the Finnish Civil War, the building served as the headquarters and administrative center for the Reds. After the war, it became the official residence of Regent C.G.E. Mannerheim. Later, the building was taken into use by the Government.
