Viikki Research Farm
Koetilantie 5, 00790 Helsinki
Discover the University of Helsinki’s Viikki Research Farm, where the sustainability of agriculture and food production has been studied for 470 years. The farm’s science trail introduces where our food comes from, how it can be produced sustainably, and what modern farming looks like. Along the way, you’ll learn about crops, soil, and dairy cow care. You can also visit the Viikki Arboretum, home to hundreds of tree and shrub species. The trail is about one kilometre long and suitable for all ages – especially for schoolchildren. The starting point is in the courtyard of the Viikki cowshed, Koetilantie 5.
More information is available online in Finnish, Swedish, and English. You can deepen your knowledge or use the materials for educational purposes – for example, to plan a lesson. The trail’s online content includes videos of researchers explaining the topics from their expert perspectives.
