Jim Jarmusch will bring his band SQÜRL to Finland for the first time in early 2022. Consisting of cult director and screenwriter Jim Jarmusch and multi-instrumentalist Carter Logan, the duo will perform at the Savoy Theatre in Helsinki on Monday, 6 February 2023.

The story of SQÜRL started in 2009 when Jarmusch, known for his films “Down by Law”, “Coffee and Cigarettes” and “Broken Flowers”, multi-instrumentalist Logan and producer Shane Stoneback started making music for “The Limits of Control”, the film Jarmusch was making at the time. Founded under the name Bad Rabbit but later renamed SQÜRL, the line-up has also been responsible for the music of the last three Jarmusch films: “Only Lovers Left Alive” (2013), “Paterson” (2016) and “The Dead Don’t Die” (2019). The band has also released four EPs and a live album released by Jack White’s Third Man Records.

In SQÜRL’s music, we can hear Jarmusch’s love of stoner riffs, hip-hop, ambient drones and rootsy rock in the vein of Neil Young. The duo’s latest long-player “Some Music for Robby Müller” was released last year through the Sacred Bones label. In Helsinki, the band will perform music to four silent films by prominent American artist Man Ray: “L’Étoile De Mer” (1928), “Emak Bakia” (1926), “Le Retour à la Raison” (1923) and “Les Mystères Du Château de Dé” (1929).
