Square / Cube – Shapes, colours and movement in the Annantalo gallery

Annankatu 30, 00100 Helsinki
Annantalo Arts Centre

Is the square too rigid or the cube too angular? What if we made them move? This autumn’s exhibition in Annantalo presents and at the same time does not present – it opens a door to the realm of the abstract!

Is the square too rigid or the cube too angular? What if we made them move? This autumn’s exhibition in Annantalo presents and at the same time does not present – it opens a door to the realm of the abstract!

What happens if you use your entire body to draw – how large squares and circles can you create?

Three-dimensional cubes meet two-dimensional squares in the Annantalo gallery, and movement and dance lead towards drawing and painting!

Art involves many perspectives, trends and interfaces for interaction, and in the gallery, visitors are welcome to play, move, hide, dance, experiment and observe. The gallery exhibition invites us to reflect on the creation and meaning of abstract – that is, non-representative – art. The back of the gallery serves as a studio where the visitors can reproduce the movements you find in the space by drawing or painting them on paper and canvas.

Annantalo embraces the abstract in the 2022–2023 season. The abstract is strongly present in the teaching, presentations and open workshops. In addition to colours and shapes, the theme also covers materials. One of the materials is glass in its many forms, which can be found on the second floor of Annantalo.

During the autumn, Annantalo will also house open workshops and other events related to the exhibition.
