William Basinski, an American known for his distinctive, meditative and melancholic soundscapes, and Abul Mogard, known for his touching, emotional ambient tunes, will perform at the Savoy Theatre in Helsinki on 17 March 2023.

The fascinatingly meditative works by classically trained Basinski are often the result of an impressive combination of analogue cassette manipulations and different keyboard instruments. Basinski draws inspiration from artists such as John Cage, Steve Reich and Brian Eno. The artist’s most famous work is a series of four albums “The Disintegration Loops” based on Basinski’s recordings dating back 20 years, which the artist sampled using the tape loop method. Basinski’s latest releases include his solo album “Lamentations” in 2020 and this year’s “…on reflection” in collaboration with Janek Schaefer.

The other performer of the evening is also one of the masters of modern synthesizer music – Italian musician Guido Zen aka Abul Mogard. Mogard is Zen’s mythical alter ego – a Serbian metal worker. This retired metal worker started to experiment with synthesizers when he began to miss the clunk, clatter and rhythm of the sounds that used to fill his days. This musician, who performed anonymously for a long time, has written music for numerous films and installations and has collaborated with Brian Eno and Carl Craig in addition to releasing his own studio albums. Zen’s latest album “In A Few Places Along The River” was released earlier this year.
