New Year 2025 in Helsinki

New Year in Helsinki is full of many festivities. The official 2025 New Year’s Eve celebrations will once again take place on Kansalaistori Square. This traditional, free-for-all event has been held by the City of Helsinki since the 1930s. Be prepared for some great shows for both adults and children – and a speech from the mayor himself.

If you wish for a quieter time welcoming year 2026, why not head to a library, museum – or sauna, a Helsinki favourite? Many are open late on New Year’s Eve and some saunas even till midnight!

Read on and see where to go and what to do in Helsinki on New Year’s Eve and Day.

Locals and visitors will once again ring in the New Year in Helsinki with festivities. The official New Year’s Eve celebrations will take place at Kansalaistori Square.

Pyro shows take place at 6pm (for kids!) and, of course, at midnight. These shows will also be viewable from a distance at Mannerheimintie or Töölönlahti Park.
