The year 2026 marks the centennial of jazz’s symbolic arrival in Finland aboard the ship Andania.

It will be a historic jubilee for Finnish jazz: the Jazz in Finland 100 Anniversary Year. To celebrate the anniversary, a jazz concert by the Mathias Sandberg Trio will be held at Vuotalo!

Mathias Sandberg has been called “one of Finland’s best kept secrets”. The highly acclaimed guitarist and composer Mathias Sandberg is one of the hardest working jazz musicians in the country. He has studied at Manhattan School of Music in New York and Berklee College of Music in Boston and worked with artists such as Georg Riedel, Brian Charette, Nick Mancini, Peter Asplund, Jukka Eskola, Teppo Mäkynen and Manuel Dunkel. Sandberg plays a hundred or so concerts a year and has toured both Europe and the United States.

Mathias Sandberg’s debut solo album The Doctor and the highly anticipated follow-up The Captain, have received both huge critical review and airplay on jazz radio stations in Europe, United States, South America, Asia and Australia. The albums showcase his unique blend of hard swingin’, groovy and soulful jazz with strong melodic writing, rhythmically playful improvisation and a delightful, almost telepathic interplay between the three.
Mathias Sandberg’s trio continues to bring jazz to the people, and has in the last two years played over 100 concerts in Finland (from Enontekiö in the north to Hanko in the south), Sweden, Denmark, Estonia, Latvia, Lithuania, Germany, Czechia, Slovakia and Austria.
