Viapori Jazz: Birds of the Archipelago

Aug 25 – 29, 2026

Myllysali hall

Suomenlinna B 17, 01900 Helsinki

A visit to Viapori Jazz is also a small journey into the birdlife of the Baltic Sea archipelago.

On the islets west of the Suomenlinna ferry route, you may spot common eiders, tufted ducks, mergansers, and five different species of gulls. The area is also home to rarer birds, including the common shelduck, little gull, red-necked phalarope, and Steller’s eider.

Together with the John Nurminen Foundation, Viapori Jazz invites you to pause for a moment to admire the beauty of the Baltic Sea’s birdlife while reflecting on the fragile and vulnerable environment these birds call home.

Throughout the festival, you are warmly invited to visit Birds of the Archipelago, a stunning photography exhibition by archipelago photographer Raimo Sundelin.

The exhibition is located in the Korppukuivaamo Passage leading to Tenalji von Fersen.
