Alterne

Alterne is a newly formed trio based in Helsinki (FI), where three musicians rooted incontemporary folk music met through their studies at the Sibelius Academy. With both original own-written music, as well as selected folksongs, Alterne creates a musicalportrait where an innovative approach towards folk music collides with tradition. The music could be described as “dream folk” and combines elements from both folk, pop music and ambient.
The trio consist of Ida Marie Jessen from Denmark. With her crystal-clear voice, she takes the listener on a musical journey with songs about seasonal cycles and southern Danish cliff beaches. Belgian violinist Oscar Beerten draws deeply on Nordic folk music and unfolds his virtuoso playing on violin and guitar. Maimu Jõgeda from Estonia knows how to combine tradition and innovation in charismatic accordion playing.

Together they invite the listener into an atmospheric universe, where lyrical melodies, beautiful harmonies and virtuous solos are in focus.
