Fascinating Film Garden 2024

Welcome to the most atmospheric outdoor cinema of the summer! In August, the City Museum will screen classic films on old-time film copies in the Falkman courtyard. Tickets are now available on our webshop.

This summer, the Fascinating Film Garden will screen Finnish classics set in Helsinki and, by popular demand, the Alfred Hitchcock thriller Rear Window.

The films will be screened with an old-time analogue 35 mm film projector. The technical implementation will be carried out by Helsingin Studiopalvelut, with whom the City Museum has been collaborating since 2018. We will sell refreshments at the event. Come and enjoy this urban backyard, the late summer’s dusky nights and classic films on the silver screen!

21.00 Drifting Clouds (directed by Aki Kaurismäki, 1996)

The melancholic comedy reflecting the Finnish reality is about an unemployed couple's strong faith in a better tomorrow. Starring Kati Outinen, Kari Väänänen, Elina Salo, Sakari Kuosmanen and Markku Peltola. Runtime 96 minutes.

A comedy of a successful couple who want to experience something new on their holiday and end up in the housing estate of Jakomäki. Starring Tiina Lymi and Petteri Summanen. Runtime 99 minutes.

21.00 Crime and Punishment (directed by Aki Kaurismäki, 1983)

Director Aki Kaurismäki's first film is an adaptation of Dostoyevsky's classic novel. It is a psychological thriller about love, revenge and guilt. Starring Markku Toikka, Aino Seppo and Esko Nikkari. Runtime 94 minutes.

The classic thriller by Alfred Hitchcock is about a photographer who, after breaking his leg, passes his time by watching his neighbours and starts to believe he has witnessed a murder. Starring James Stewart, Grace Kelly, Thelma Ritter and Raymond Burr. Runtime 111 minutes.
