The colour chart of Anders Hillborg opens with the glittering tinkle of a glass harmonica before expanding into a swirling magic world for full orchestra. 

The tension in the cello concerto by Unsuk Chin is in places excruciating; she herself speaks of “psychological warfare” between cellist and orchestra. The piece no doubt arrives at a tentative truce. The soloist, Tuomas Lehto, is from the FRSO’s own ranks.
