Jessica Alexandra North – Enchanted Garden

Lumottu puutarha (Enchanted Garden) is an experiential and multidisciplinary showcase of artist Jessica Alexandra North’s works, from handcrafts and ceramics to painting, photographs and installations.

This exhibition was inspired by wild and unkempt gardens, the boundary between night and day, Finnish forest myths, as well as working with natural and recycled materials.

It is an attempt to find the place for intuition, feelings and the senses in a social reality formed by rational principles, in which imagination, creativity and spontaneity are at risk of being left by the wayside, with all of society’s processes in service of financial targets. Enchanted Garden tries to find a place outside of reality, which is why enchantment is a revolutionary opportunity to reconnect us with the things capitalism has taken away: our relationship with nature, other people, and our bodies.

The exhibition will feature a soundscape by audio artist Drama Tiikka, and each piece has room to sit and relax in your type of nature experience. The plant-based crayons used in some of the pieces as well as the textile and thread dyeing are the handiwork of Enni Heinä.
