A staple in the Finnish musical subconscious since 1983, Jonna Tervomaa celebrates her anniversary at Helsinki Festival, returning to the Huvila stage and focusing on her biggest classics. Having turned 50 in January, the artist also celebrates her songwriting career, the 25th anniversary of her adult debut album (Jonna Tervomaa 1998) and her 40-year career as a singer, which began with the Syksyn sävel competition in 1983.

At the turn of the century, Tervomaa and her band were a part of the creation of a new kind of Finnish rock sound, and now is the time for its revival. Making a long-awaited comeback with a guitar-driven band, Tervomaa’s Suljettu Sydän consists of Jussi Jaakonaho (guitars), Juha Kuoppala (keyboards), Jonne von Hertzen (bass) and Juho Viljanen (drums).

The first performer of the night is STINAKO, Teosto award-winning singer-songwriter Stina Koistinen, who makes hauntingly beautiful music. Her debut album Ikuisuus was nominated for the esteemed Nordic Music Prize. STINAKO’s second album Ghostina, released at the end of last year, introduced Ghostina, a ghost living in the ruins of her memories. Selected as the best album of the year by Helsingin Sanomat critic Mari Koppinen, it is a beautiful collection of songs grown out of those ruins.
