The Budapest Illustration Festival (Budapesti Illusztrációs Fesztivál), established in 2019, aims to present and renew Hungarian illustration art. An important aim is to bring the writings of both international and Hungarian classical and contemporary authors to the public's attention alongside contemporary illustrations.

Every two years, the festival organises an open competition in four categories: fiction (for children and young people), non-fiction, silent books and a variable theme chosen to mark the anniversaries of different authors. Ten prizes were awarded in the first year of the festival and 11 prizes in 2021 for the best emerging illustrator in addition to the above categories. For the first time, the Líviusz Gyulai Prize will be awarded in recognition of the illustrator's lifetime achievement.
