Päivi Raivio (RaivioBumann): Taipuva Tila – Vuosaari House gallery process exhibition
The people make the city. The Taipuva Tila (Bendable Space) project explores urban spaces and their use together with citizens.
The people make the city. The Taipuva Tila (Bendable Space) project explores urban spaces and their use together with citizens.
At the centre of the exhibition is a scale model of the urban spaces of Vuosaari’s future Cultural Quarter, which is used to illustrate future buildings and public spaces. The model serves as a platform for ideas, discussion and collaboration: it will be gradually shaped and complemented by different layers and collages during the exhibition.
The exhibition project explores in particular which forms the urban space can take as well as what kind of fun and even surprising forms of coexistence and functions it can accommodate. The model is a tool for discussion and a common playground where even the impossible is possible. The scale model provides an opportunity to imagine different possibilities for the urban space and to reflect together on whether the future Cultural Quarter will fit the wishes and ideas of the citizens.
Taipuva Tila is a process-like participatory exhibition project by urban designer-artist Päivi Raivio (RaivioBumann). It will be created in dialogue with Petri Leppälä of the Helsinki City Planning Department, who is preparing the development of the Vuosaari Cultural Quarter and will bring current plans of the area to the exhibition.
