Driven by the need to challenge himself as a composer, Vespera Quartet was formed by Martti Vesala in 2022.

Driven by the need to challenge himself as a composer, Vespera Quartet was formed by Martti Vesala in 2022. He started out by setting three restrictions: first of all, the instrumentation should be unfamiliar to him. Secondly, the ensemble could include four musicians at most, excluding the drum set. Thirdly, it should be able to perform both amplified and acoustic.

Vespera Quartet’s music is cinematic and melodic, it mixes nordic jazz with modern classical music and improvised music. The ensemble is made up of the most interesting Helsinki-based instrumentalists.

Vespera Quartet’s concert in Tenho Restobar on April 21, 2024 is the very first public appearance of this unique and exciting new ensemble.
