Book Launching Event and Concert in Honour of the Szilvay Brothers

 

The careers of Csaba and Géza Szilvay are celebrated with the publication of their biography at the Liszt Institute and a Jubilee concert  at Temppeliaukio Church.

 

Cellist and President of the Finnish Kodály Society Olli Varonen has written a biography of the Szilvay brothers' lives and their careers as pedagogues and orchestra conductors, which have influenced people all over the world. The book is titled: ”Lapselle vain paras on kyllin hyvä - Géza ja Csaba Szilvayn elämä" (For a child, only the best is good enough - The life of Géza and Csaba Szilvay)

At the launch event, Vesa Tompuri from Aviador Publishing will interview the Szilvay brothers and the author of the book. The event will also include excerpts from the biography and also Hungarian folk songs and Kodály tunes.

The concert will feature performances by the Helsinki Junior String Quartet conducted by Kasmir Uusitupa and the Helsinki Children's String Quartet conducted by Tarja Nyberg. Cellist Marko Ylönen will be the soloist of the Junior Strings. 

The concert will also feature duets by Bartók and Kodály performed by Marko Ylönen, violinists Réka Szilvay and Kasmir Uusitupa and the Duo Shine & Shadow (Olli Varonen, cello & Virva Garam, piano).

The event will be hosted by Aarno Cronvall. The concert will be recorded by Yle.
