Galleria U presents contemporary mosaic art made by Tímea Karkiss using old techniques, hand-carved stones and glass.

Tímea Karkiss graduated as a mosaic artist in 2004 from the Scuola Mosaicisti del Friuli (Spilimbergo, Italy), one of the most renowned mosaic schools in Europe. Karkiss makes mosaics using ancient techniques of Roman and Byzantine culture, hand-carved stones and mosaic glass. She uses traditional materials and methods in her work, at he same time creating a contemporary athmosphere.

"I feel the need to create a world that stands out from everyday life and a visual language that corresponds to it. With my works I want to invite the viewer into a certain atmosphere, that is sensed rather than understood, where they can escape from the world around them and the pressures to conform to it, and become part of a different existence, even if only for a moment." - Tímea Karkiss
