Larufest: From Sunrise to Hymn of Thanksgiving

Minna von Knorring’s songs offer a perspective on Finland-Swedish culture and highlight a simple yet expressive form of song. Joseph Haydn’s late masterpiece had a direct influence on Beethoven’s string quartets. 

Pēteris Vasks’s sixth string quartet was written in honour of Beethoven’s 250th anniversary. In the work, the composer quotes or refers to the third movement of Beethoven’s 15th string quartet, the “Hymn of thanksgiving from a convalescent to the Deity in the Lydian mode.”
