Tradition Tailored to Life – Hungarian Folk Costumes

The exhibition showcases the unique beauty of Hungarian folk costumes, celebrated for their rich colours, intricate designs, and remarkable craftsmanship. 

Alongside the garments and their accessories, it offers a glimpse into the rural peasant culture of the 18th and 19th centuries. The selection has been drawn from the costume collection of the Forgatós Folk Dance Ensemble.

The exhibition aims to provide visitors with a vivid snapshot of a bygone era. It illustrates the differences between the clothing of market-town residents, mountain shepherds, bourgeois families, and rural communities. 

It also highlights the moral codes reflected in traditional dress, reveals the distinctions between everyday and festive attire, and demonstrates the shared practical features of children’s simple, lightweight, and functional clothing.

The exhibition presents not only costumes but also a wide variety of accessories, bringing visitors closer to a world that has since disappeared.
