Vokal Vivo: Haugtussa

The concert gives a musical rendition of the mystical, misty landscapes of Arne Garborg’s Haugtussa (1895). 

The Norwegian epic circle of poems tells the story of Veslemøy, or Haugtussa (‘The Hill Maid’), a young girl haunted by visions and by the talk of the village people, fighting against her own demons and the forces of nature and its creatures. 

This concert gives you a story of betrayal, distress, love and courage, inspired by Norwegian folklore and the mysticism of nature.

Vokal Vivo will perform songs by Ketil Bjørnstad, made into choir arrangements by Ingunn Solem. Singer Åshild Bergill Hagen and saxophonist Tina Lægreid Olsen also give their own interpretations of Bjørnstad’s pieces. 

Narrator Anine Schanke Strømdahl connects the musical pieces together and brings the story of Haugtussa to life.

Vokal Vivo is a women’s choir from Oslo, Norway. The choir was established in 2016 and is conducted by Marianne Husby Berg. Through concerts and recordings they offer a unique sound, captivating storytelling and genuine musical presence.

Åshild Bergill Hagen is a Norwegian singer-songwriter. With her solo project Bergill plays folk pop music inspired by jazz and driven by emotion.

Tina Lægreid Olsen is a Norwegian jazz saxophonist and composer, part of Oslo jazz ensemble and other bands.
