Getting around Helsinki by taxi – how, what and where

Taxis are an easy and comfortable way to travel around Helsinki – and more environmentally friendly than using your own car. Many taxi services in Helsinki offer electric cars on request too.

If you are traveling with a wheelchair, stroller, or a pet, it is advisable to book in advance.

Ordering a taxi

You can order a taxi by phone or using an app, pick one up from a taxi rank, or hail your cab from the street. When ordering the car using an app, always choose a fixed price to avoid unpleasant surprises!

In the city center, taxi ranks are located, for example, at the Railway station square, Senaatintori square, Pohjoisesplanadi boulevard, and by the great ferry terminals. When the yellow light on the roof of the car is lit, the taxi is available.

Taxi prices

Helsinki cab fares can vary widely. The price list must be visible to the customer on the right-hand side of the taxi, outside the vehicle.

The price list shows the comparative price and possible minimum price for the journey. The comparative price is the price for a 15-minute journey of 10 kilometers.

If the fare exceeds 40 euros, the driver must mention this before the journey begins. If this is not mentioned, the driver may not charge more than 40 € for any journey.

Other (taxi) things to note!

Note that at night-time when the bars close, it may take a while to get a cab (although many romances have started at the Helsinki taxi ranks!).

Similarly, if heavy rain or snow fall is battering the city, you probably won’t be the only one looking for a taxi. It’s always a good idea to order your car in advance if you need one urgently!

You can find more detailed instructions on how to get a taxi from the Helsinki-Vantaa airport, a ferry terminal, or a train station below.

Arriving by plane
There are four lanes for different taxi companies at the taxi station at Helsinki Airport.  The taxi companies that have an agreement with the airport company Finavia operate from the lanes 1-4. These are FixuTaxi, Taksi Helsinki, Menevä and Lähitaksi. By choosing a taxi from lanes 1-4, you will reach your destination at a reasonable price.

Ataxi ride from Helsinki-Vantaa Airport to the center of Helsinki takes about 30 minutes and costs about 40-45 euro when taking a taxi from lanes 1-4.

The pick-up point for ride-hailing app rides and pre-booked taxis is located in the P2 parking hall, in the immediate vicinity of the terminal. There is direct access from the terminal’s arrivals hall to P2 parking hall. Signs in the terminal will direct arriving passengers to the pick-up point.

Taxis that do not have a contract with Finavia can also to pick up their customers from the pick-up point in P2. Please, note that the  taxis in the pick-up point can state their prices freely.

Arriving by ship or ferry
In the port we recommend taking Taksi Helsinki or Lähitaksi  from the taxi stand. They  are contract partners of Port of Helsinki.

Arriving by train
From the taxi stand at Helsinki Central Railway Station, the authorized taxi companies operating are Taksi Helsinki and Fixutaxi.

From the taxi stand at Pasila Railway Station, the authorized taxi companies operating are Taksi Helsinki and Lähitaksi.

We recommend using authorized taxis.

Enjoy your taxi ride in Helsinki!
