Valtteri Laurell w. Ricky-Tick Big Band feat. Emilia Sisco: “Helsinki Noir Suite – Searching for Tapio”

What would jazz orchestra music that could only be born in Finland be like?  Composer-musician Valtteri Laurell’s answer to this question is an hour-long, ten-part, dark, intimate, prowling and multidimensional composition, the subtitle of which refers to one of the main characters of the libretto, the forest spirit Tapio. The libretto has been written by Laurell and E.L. Karhu, one of Finland’s leading playwrights. The premiere heard at Huvila will be performed by the 17-member Ricky-Tick Big Band, led by Laurell. Soul artist Emilia Sisco will provide narration and vocals.
